Andrew Builds an Engine
Acrylic Bending Module
This is Jaci and Dani, making some Christmas tree ornament at the acrylic bending module. How do you bend them you ask?? Well, we shall tell you. First, you place the plastic pieces on the heating bay and once a jello-like jiggle occurs you begin with a slight bend. Then you hold the bend until it cools and is solid. You find yourself with an ornate Christmas ornament.

7th Grade Shop Class
Shop class was really fun this year because we did these modules. One of the modules was the chess piece. I made 3. They were the rook, the queen, and the king. Another module was the CNC Mill. It was really cool because it engraved letters and stuff into a piece of plastic.

emily and hannah...THE WALL!
What I like and haven't done in shop
This year in shop I have done the chess piece, soldering boards, electric wall, making a wall, a car, picture frame, a small motor kit, copper pipe, another plastic piece, and a video called annoying arrisa. My favorite one was the chess piece because you can make a whole chess set, I wish I could do that this quarter. One I haven't done yet was the plastic thingy. At the end of the quarter shop has a car race and I hope i win it, even though I probably wont. I wish that I had shop next quarter.

Hi everybody!!!!! Well Mariah and I have been having a good time in shop. We did plastices, metal, the hook making, car, measured wood, and also did the mini moter. This is all very fun stuff! Making dog tags was the best thing ever! Along with all this we did pod cast which was very funny and a video about a magic trick. One of the things I Really would like to do is the plastic word thing that would be fun!
- LEXI seventh grade

My seventh grade shop expierence
My first module I did was one were you heat and bend plastic to create a picture frame, a teck deck, and an ornament. The second module I did was the soldering module I loved that one. I did stage three which is a game where you try to catch the light when it flashes it is really fun. I burned my self a couple times but it was because my fingers were way to close to the iron. My favorite thing to do was the copper pipe soldering the joints together and those are the highlights of my seventh grade shop year.

Shop
This year in shop we started off making a video. We filmed it first and then added special effects. Then we bent plastic using a heater. There were all different colors! We liked the CNC Mill, where you can carve writing in plastic and is also 3D. The most hardest thing was making the wall! There are a lot of nails that you have to put in. Its hard because sometimes you hit your thumb! Ow! We also liked making the hook, where you can hang anything you want! We've also made a chess piece and race car this year.

electronics
Heres what I think about the electronics module. Its fun and challenging. probably more challenging than any other module i have done. when soldering you have to get it just right or you have just messed up the whole thing. When putting the little colored things on the side you have to very accurate on which on is which and where to place them. buts its feels great when you have finished it and it works. i have done all three of the modules and all of them work perfectly. well i wouldn't say perfectly because they all have to have been redone many time just to get them to work. other than that you just have to have faith in your hands and some in your hand eye cordnation. so thats all i have to say for now.

Students Will Start Blogging
The seventh graders at the DCG Middle School will be making comments concerning their experience in shop on this blog. They will tell about the modules they work on, the projects they make, and, hopefully, what they have learned. For the educationally minded, you can consider this a form of assessment. There are probably several other educational buzz words (CRISS, etc.) that could describe this activity that is being placed in the curriculum along with the 20+ other shop modules. We also introduce residential wiring, construction, cnc lathe, cnc mill, electronics, dc motors, design and production, soldering, galvanized pipe, metal bending, podcasting, cad, lawn mower engine assembly, and more, including woodworking. Our most recent addition is video recording, editing, processing and uploading to SchoolTube. We do all that in nine weeks with 150+ seventh grade boys and girls. If you follow this blog you will get a chance to see their work (uploaded photos), watch them work, play and learn (uploaded videos) and read (uploaded blogs) their comments. In fact, with all that, you can be the evaluator of the student's learning and make your own comments. You can even assign a grade (A, B, C, D, or F) if it will help finish the cycle of education. Let's see what they do.
